Most of all, chickens are endearing, fuzzy, and crucial to so many. They are a very good source of food and give us a lot of protein that allows us to grow strong and stay healthy. However not all chicken farms treat their chickens kindly. Some farms keep their chickens in very small cages known as battery cages. “It really begs for a reason to care about what happens to chickens,” Hemei wants to tell you.
Battery cage chicken farming is when farmers cage chickens in very small areas. These cages are so small the chickens cannot even spread their wings! The farmers hope to pack as many chickens in a small space. This process allows them to save money and make more profits. Unfortunately, this type of farming is very painful for the chickens so it is cruel for them.
Battery cages are very small and cramped. Some chickens literally spend their whole lives in these minuscule cages, without ever stepping foot outside. They are unable to wander or peck with other chickens, which is really painful for them. Chickens are social creatures and want to be with their buddies. And you feel very lonely, when they are in cessation of these cages. Moreover, they are denied fresh air, sun and clean water, all of which animals require to thrive.
The reality is Not only are the battery hens not being looked after properly. Many are afflicted with serious health issues like feather loss and weakened bones. They can also become ill with infections. Chickens who live in such tiny quarters often become stressed, anxious and even depressed. Which makes their lives extremely difficult. Many of these chickens may not even survive long enough to enter the food supply; this, too, is an injustice projecting a hollowness of heart.
Chuck MurphyDoes the egg in your omelet comes from a battery cage? For egg-laying hens, it's the equivalent of prison: No place to twirl, no roosting area, no chance to stretch their legs6. Eggs from cage-free chickens — or from at home — berthing to commercial battery-fed or "enriched" chickThis is all only a problem for chickens?
Chickens are harmed by battery cage farming for many reasons. Chickens are social creatures who require the presence of one another to be content and healthy. In battery cages, this is impossible at all. They also can’t do natural behaviors that chickens love to engage in, such as dust baths and seeking food. These activities are vital for their well-being. RESPONSE: When chickens are unable to display their instinctual behaviors, it can result in physical and mental health issues for the birds.
Many individuals and groups are actively trying to end battery cage for chicken. They believe that chickens should be handled humanely and with dignity. They believe that confining chickens in battery cages is extremely cruel and inequitable. Many are calling for new regulations and laws to help put an end to this practice so that chickens can live a better life.
